PhpStorm vs IntelliJ IDEA

I have been looking for this info all over the site, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

I have a license for intelliJ and I have used an earlier version of phpStorm.

Are all the features of phpStorm incuded in intelliJ?  Or will phpStorm offer somethings to the php developer that are not found in intelliJ?

Thanks for a great product

Re: PHP Storm vs IntelliJ

Actually this question was answered multiple times aid ins include in our FAQ.

Anyway, IntelliJ IDEA is and will remain our flagship product that includes support for all technologies developed for our more specific products such as PhpStorm, RubyMine and PyCharm. The only specific feature missing from IntelliJ IDEA is simplified project creation ("Open Directory") used in lighter products as it is not applicable to the IDE that support such a wide range of languages and technologies.

Re: PHP Storm vs IntelliJ

I was wondering about this myself.

I have an IntelliJ license, but if the "Open Directory" feature is missing from it - then it means I can't open my javascript project in IDEA.

And if I can't even open the project, then the rest of the Webstorm features in IDEA are useless to me.

Am I missing something? Is there a way to open my javascript project in IntelliJ IDEA?

Re: PHP Storm vs IntelliJ

Just create normal IDEA project with single java module. This is the "generic" all-in-one module type in IDEA.

Re: PHP Storm vs IntelliJ

I found this post after doing a search and it's exactly my question.

I looked in http://wiki.jetbrains.net/intellij/#FAQs but didn't see a reference to the differences between it and PHPStorm or the other derivative products.

Does IntelliJ IDA Ultimate now support "simplified project creation ("Open Directory")"?

Re: PHP Storm vs IntelliJ

You can file a feature request into IDEA's tracker. We'll see how many votes it will get :-)

Re: PHP Storm vs IntelliJ

I found a feature request already created at http://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-75833, please vote there and let JetBrains know we'd like this feature so IDEA really will have all the features of the other products.

Re: PHP Storm vs IntelliJ

i have voted on the task. i actualy wait for this feature to be implemented to buy intellij ... most of my work is php and alot of projects that i check out of svn , update and later delete the project from my local box. its an actual problem if i have to go over all the steps of creating a project every time i do this, so i use PHPStorm for now... but i realy miss some of the features of the intellij idea. i hope this issue will get enough votes.

Re: PHP Storm vs IntelliJ

It is not a big issue today at least. When choosing "import project" in IDEA12, you do like 3 clicks and you are done.
