Editor settings (tab spacing) per file

Some times (quite often actually) I need to edit files made by other (open-source) devlopers and I want to keep author's style of writing (amout of tab spaces, comma first) in the editor. Is it possible to change it for particular file (or directory)?

Hi there,

No -- you cannot have separate code style on per scope (file/folder) base.

But you can:

  • Switch to that Code Style before editing that file and then switch back to yours afterwards (need to remember to actually do that -- not convenient at all, I know).
  • Try EditorConfig plugin -- some settings (only very basic, like tab size, tab or space etc) may work (on per directory basis AFAIK) -- for more details -- http://editorconfig.org/
