Ruby student trying to figure out some editor options

I'm trying to find a way to keep my cursor locked to the end of existing lines.

If I click out in the open space to the right of my code, I don't want my cursor to appear there (although this behavior would become more useful when I learn more, I suspect).

I want the cursor to instead snap to the leftmost "free" position, like other (less flexible?) text editors do.

I looked through the prefs for this setting but I'm not even sure what it would be called.

Also, are there "strictness" settings to the indentions?

I notice that it's very easy for me to end up typing code in between the "tab" slots, then I have to manually go back and shift them to the correct indentions.

it looks like you need to uncheck "Allow placement of caret after end of line" and "Allow placement of carrent inside tabs"
